Taxi Rip-Off

Do people have no morals anymore? Last week, as my boyfriend was coming home from work, he discovered he didn’t have any money on him; he called me in embarrassment on his cell phone.  A €9 fee. No big deal. But I didn’t have a ten so I gave him fifty. He paid the driver and as the car pulled away, he thanked me and gave me €1 change.

I thought he was kidding… but then, there was no smirk. I had given him a fifty, I said! And just as those words were out of my mouth, I saw my boyfriend take off down the street after the car, and then jump into another taxi.

Some time later, he arrived home, downcast and empty-handed. The taxi and driver had vanished. A call to the taxi company was no more successful. They said they couldn’t do anything.

What sort of a person accepts such a large amount of money in error, and then keeps it? And even drives off, when he sees the customer running after him? What is wrong with people? Or is it just about the money?
