Winter in Wien
Vom Verschwinden einer Jahreszeit

Walter Nagel GmbH & Co. KG / Wien Museum
Winter, which was only a winter to a limited extent, will soon be coming to an end in calendar terms too. The exhibition on the cold season at the Wien Museum is also only open for a few more days (last chance: March 16). "Winter in Vienna. Vom Verschwinden einer Jahreszeit" (Winter in Vienna. The Disappearance of a Season) goes back to the 19th century to show seasonal joys and sorrows in the cold; the backdrop is climate change, which has made white splendor a rarity. The Wien Museum traces Father Frost on the Danube in four sections. Historical photos and paintings show idyllic snow-covered squares and ice-skating fun, but also the misery of freezing day laborers shoveling snow. Who would have thought that the world's first indoor ski slope was opened in Vienna in 1927?
