This small, fine show on early Viennese concrete buildings is based on a long-term research project by architecture journalist Otto Kapfinger. The construction technique developed in the 1880s was used for the vaults of the Vienna River as well as for the bridge of the city railroad. In the exhibition, the models of the iron scaffolding that formed the skeleton for modern residential buildings, banks, department stores and theaters catch the eye. Josef Plečnik designed the first reinforced concrete church in Central Europe, but the temples of consumption such as the Mariahilfer Zentralpalast exuded an even stronger aura.
