Suburbia

Still a widespread desire: the detached house on the outskirts of the city. The exhibition takes a close look at how the suburbs (or rather the suburban belt) became a place of longing in the USA and also looks at its pop-cultural significance. From the 1950s onwards, the ideal of living in a house with a lawn, pool and garage became popular thanks to advertising and the entertainment industry. The negative consequences such as land consumption, soil sealing and the separation of social groups characterize urban US zones today. The exhibition at the CCC Barcelona cultural center also focuses on Austria.
