Suburbia. Leben im amerikanischen Traum

The detached house on the outskirts: still a widespread desire? The exhibition, which runs until August 4, takes a close look at how the suburbs (or rather the suburban belt) became a place of longing in the USA, and also looks at their pop-cultural significance. The mansions of the early 19th century served as a blueprint. From the 1950s onwards, the ideal of living in a house with a lawn, pool and garage became established through advertising and the entertainment industry. The negative consequences such as land consumption, sealing and the separation of social groups characterize urban US zones today. The exhibition at the CCC Barcelona cultural center also focuses on Austria.
