La nouvelle femme

Neue Visionen Filmverleih
At the beginning of the 20th century, the young doctor Maria Montessori runs an institute in Rome with a colleague, where children with learning disabilities are supported using new learning methods. In her private life, she cannot admit to her relationship with a colleague and their son for social reasons. - "Léa Todorov's conventional, finely knitted costume drama portrays Montessori as a (dis)courageous woman; the recent criticism of her views - she adhered to racial theory and sought proximity to fascism - remains unmentioned (but hardly affects the time of the plot). The stars of the film are the children anyway, especially Rafaëlle Sonneville-Caby as Tina." (Sabina Zeithammer)
