On November 5, 2018, a tragedy occurs in Rue d'Aubagne in Marseille: several dilapidated houses collapse and eight people die. Robert Guédiguian, a specialist in social dramas, dedicates his new work to the district of his home town affected by the real-life disaster and gets straight into political and personal struggles, social problems and hopes in his lively ensemble film. His socio-political commitment is reminiscent of Ken Loach, but he chooses a more optimistic, poetic tone. When the camera wanders over the houses and looks out to sea, his film is also simply a declaration of love to a melancholy Marseille. (Sabina Zeithammer)
