Todd Haynes approaches the impenetrable web of legends surrounding Bob Dylan in possibly the only tried and tested way: He has six actors (from Richard Gere to Cate Blanchett) appear in various enigmatic episodes in the role of the world-famous pop prophet and works through his biography/mythology - from the poor but music-loving boy in the American hinterland to the electrified narcissist with a golden mouth - piece by piece. A narrative experiment.
