Maynila: sa mga kuko ng liwanag

A melodramatic story of a young man from the provinces who sets off for Manila in search of his lost love. Julio goes through an odyssey in the big city before he finds Ligaya, who is being held hostage by a Chinese man. "What really makes the film outstanding are the images by cinematographer Mike de Leon, who would later become a great filmmaker himself: they are characterized by an urgency and an immediacy that is unique even for Brocka - as if he had shot the film right in front of the cinema in which it is being shown." (Noel Vera). - As a bonus, there is a short documentary on the making of the Filipino classic, which was created for "Manila in the Claws of Light".
