The Gold Rush

Studiocanal
In 1898, Alaska is in the grip of gold fever: a young prospector falls in love with a saloon singer and is rewarded twice over in the end, with riches and love. At the time, this was Chaplin's most ambitious film, shot on location under the most extreme conditions. The scene in which Charlie eats one of his shoes has become part of cinema's iconographic memory. (Recording of the score by Timothy Brock)
