Minnesota, deepest province. Jerry Lundegaard decides to have his wife kidnapped by two crooks and blackmail his rich father-in-law. Marge Gunderson, the new local police chief, who is also heavily pregnant, is assigned to her very first case. "It's our first realistic film," the Coen bros claimed at the time, "so it's a comedy." Yikes!
