A mosaic of characters and fates whose paths cross, not always by chance, between Munich and Seville. Dörrie's strength is irony, the grotesque and the tragic are less to her liking - but in its best moments the lavishly cast film has "something familiar in an almost touching way, is a kind of familial group portrait" (Rainer Gansera).
