Starring: 20 Cuban musicians, most of them already retired, who were brought out of oblivion by the resourceful producer Ry Cooder's "BVSC". - Wenders assembles fates, stories, songs into a calm, almost aimless flow. This is well worth listening to, but the fact that such a sloppily cobbled together film is supposed to be the Best European Documentary of 1999 should not go unchallenged.
