Challenging new times are dawning: Paulette Van der Beck (Juliette Binoche), along with her sister-in-law Gilbert and sister Marie-Thérèse, runs a domestic school in provincial France in the late 1960s. When her husband dies, she learns that their institute is facing ruin. Paulette must now handle the finances herself, while feminist ideas of 1968 spill over to her students. In addition, a new man tries to convince her that "I can iron and cook!"
