Menkes presents a compelling analysis of how cinema - the dream factory - has advanced an objectification of women over many decades, possibly supporting a relationship between the sexes that continues to be marked by discrimination and abuse today. Based on her lecture "Sex and Power: The Visual Language of Oppression" and supported by more than 175 film examples from 1896 to 2020, Menkes once again uncovers how cinema has, among other things, shaped an image of women based essentially on attractiveness in the eyes of men.
