Pietro is a boy from the city, Bruno the last child of a forgotten mountain village. Adventurously they explore abandoned houses, roam through valleys on endless summer days, follow the torrent to its source. Later they take different paths. While Bruno starts a family in his home village but never really feels at home, Pietro is drawn to the wide world. But the invisible bond between them always brings Pietro back home. "Friendship for life, that says itself quickly. Eight Mountains' tells the story of what that actually means in an unagitated and magnificent way" (Michael Pekler).
