Blue Box

A revealing documentary about the history of the Jewish National Fund's "blue boxes" that symbolized support for Israeli settlement and agricultural development. Through the private diaries and papers of her great-grandfather Yosef Weits, Israel's celebrated "Father of Forests," director Michal Weits uncovers a darker side to his legacy: as head of the JNF's Department of Agriculture and Forestry in the founding years of the new state, Weits also served as the "architect of the transfer" - planting the trees while uprooting three-quarters of a million Arabs to preserve their land.
