"Elemental" leads into a city where the elements earth, fire, water and air, formed into individuals, live together. Only they are not allowed to mix. Until a fire girl and a water boy fall in love and question this rule. Pixar's new film wants to be many things at once - and is only half. The funny portrait of a fantastic city does not reach beyond the beginning; the later threat to the fire district is diffuse. The love story of opposing characters is torpedoed by an unhealthy father fixation. This indicates what "Elemental" is mainly about: the complex relationships of the first and second generation of an immigrant family. (Sabina Zeithammer)
