Italy in 1609: Caravaggio, a painter accused of murder, has fled Rome and fled to Naples. Supported by the powerful Colonna family, he tries to obtain the church's mercy so that he can return to Rome. The Pope decides to assign an inquisitor to investigate the painter, whose art is considered subversive and against the morals of the Church. Action-packed historical drama in which Louis Garrel steals the show from the artist in the role of the investigating "shadow of Caravaggio".
