A town on a river in rural China in the 1990s: the sun seems to have forgotten this place, it rains constantly. And a series of murders of old women is occurring; the body of the "fourth grandmother" has just been found. Hard-boiled inspector Ma Zhe sets out to investigate, and director Wei Shujun very slowly and imperceptibly pulls the rug out from under the audience with his neo-noir with mystery elements.
