3, 2, 1, ... rocket launch

Until a few months ago, pottery was still made here. However, ceramics was not the main business model of this restaurant for very long, it became better known as the "Rapidstüberl". Nowadays, restaurants called Rapidstüberl have their justification, it is not for nothing that there are a handful of them spread across the city. However, when the property became vacant at the beginning of the year, Corinna Huber and Andreas Brunner thought that it could be turned into more than just a "Tschocherl" or a nail salon. After all, Brigittenauer Karl-Meißl-Straße, with its avenue trees and the newly renovated, magnificent Wilhelminian and Art Nouveau houses with wrought-iron balcony railings, is not only a really pretty square, but also the shortest route from the Wallensteinplatz traffic junction to the Augarten. A route that many people frequent. Huber and Brunner know this because they have been running their extremely successful bistro Wohnküche two streets away since 2019. They were therefore also aware that the people who would be coming to the restaurant would be the ones who would be coming to the restaurant. Although these rational considerations are only one half of the story, the two simply wanted to have a casual restaurant in their residential neighborhood where people could sit and have a good time. So they turned the former Grindbeisl into a pretty, bright espresso called Rakete. They hung up pictures, either by artist friends (the good ones) or from Willhaben (the terrible ones), Brunner carpentered the wooden benches himself, as he had already done in the eat-in kitchen, and the floor and ceiling were cleaned and repainted, but still give an idea of the Rapidstüberl. The pub garden in the form of a wooden terrace under the trees is charming, and when the upstairs neighbors water their balcony flowers, there is even humidification. The menu includes a few nice wines, generally from the "natural" category, and the open beer is from Lake Tegernsee. The very cloudy Pet Nat from a winery called Casa Amore from Grieskirchen (€ 6.90) is particularly interesting. A highball "Agpropos Apros" made from rosé, vermouth and soda proves to be very refreshing, bittersweet and just right for this place (€ 6.90). There's also something to nibble on, such as large, meaty olives in a jam jar (€ 6), a plate of prosciutto (€ 8) and, from this week, matured Emmental cheese from Jumi. Does the Rakete contribute to Brigittenau's casualness index? Definitely. Summary: Sitting in a beautiful alleyway on a pretty terrace and sipping good drinks - from now on also in the 20th district.
